Michael Levin received his Ph.D. in molecular genetics from Harvard, and is currently director of the Allen Discovery Center at Tufts University. His group uses developmental biology, cognitive science, and computer science to investigate the collective intelligence of tissues that enables self-assembly and repair of complex anatomies. By re-writing bioelectrical “pattern memories”, they develop applications for regenerative medicine, birth defects, cancer, and synthetic organisms.
